Carla Marques Oliveira is our guest speaker.

Precision fermentation is a sophisticated technique that involves the use of genetically modified microorganisms and the precise control and optimization of their growth conditions to improve the production of valuable target molecules, such as antibiotics, antioxidants, biofuels, and recombinant proteins. The final goal in precision fermentation is to establish a profitable and sustainable production process that can replace (or complement) chemical manufacturing, or biomolecules extraction from their natural sources, and even create tailor-made molecules. Besides microbial host engineering, culture media formulation and process optimization are key points for the success, and thus will be discussed in this talk. The use of renewable feedstocks, as carbon and nutrients source, which largely contribute to process sustainability, will be highlighted. Finally, some examples of biomolecules successfully produced by precision fermentation within the research line “Biotech Innovation and Tech Transfer”, and others in our pipeline, will be presented.
