The degree in Liberal Sciences begins with a year of intense preparation in scientific and humanities subjects and then follows one of 2 distinct paths that students can choose from: food system transition and environmental transition.

Within the chosen path, the students themselves will compose their own personal paths through 6 optional subjects* (30 ECTS - equivalent to an entire semester) to be selected from the offerings of the entire UCP in Porto and through a total of 45 ECTS dedicated to interdisciplinary project work (equivalent to ¾ of a whole academic year).   Each of these pathways is flexible enough that each student can build it based on their interests. Interdisciplinary project work provides a unique opportunity to develop more skills and acquire more knowledge, integrating technical-scientific knowledge with that of the humanities and others.  These projects will be carried out in various contexts: institutions, companies, other external partners and the CBQF research centre. The obligation to involve an external entity in the work of the interdisciplinary project will integrate the project into a “real world” context, adding another layer of learning and greatly enriching the overall educational process.

During the course, a tutoring team will monitor the student's development, supporting options and choices and ensuring that learning objectives are achieved.
