Student Ombudsman

A young person who does not protest does not please me
Pope Francis WYDay 2013

The active participation of students in the life of the University is essential, especially in the presentation of concrete solutions that lead to an improvement of the services and further the mission and objectives of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto.

The Student Ombudsman's main mission is to defend and promote the rights and legitimate interests of the students of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa in Porto.

The mission of the Student Ombudsman is to provide a complementary channel by which the student may appeal, with guarantees of impartiality, whenever, in general, he or she considers that the University has not acted in accordance with the precepts of the Church's social doctrine. It is a role that is common in many organizations nowadays, and one that, for numerous reasons, the Universidade Católica cannot do without and, above all, must approach with dignity and respect.

I face this challenge with the added responsibility of succeeding in this position a unique person, a symbol of the Universidade Católica in Porto, which he helped to create and consolidate in the city and country. It is not for nothing that Professor Carvalho Guerra was called "Father Guerra" by the students of that time. Like a father, he was demanding, and capable of giving the most unabashed scolding that he combined with affection, encouragement and paternal respect."
