Doutorado em Biotecnologia (especialidade em Química) pela Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Licenciado em Química pela Universidade do Porto. António Rangel é Professor Catedrático na Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, onde leciona diversas disciplinas de Química Básica e Analítica.

Os seus interesses de investigação centram-se na automatização e miniaturização de análises químicas e bioquímicas, com ênfase no desenvolvimento de sistemas de fluxo e de dispositivos microfluídicos para análises nas áreas ambiental, alimentar e biomédica. É co-autor de mais de 180 publicações indexadas internacionalmente e esteve envolvido na orientação de 20 teses de doutoramento. Tem exercido vários cargos de gestão na instituição, e.g. membro da Direção da ESB (vários mandatos), direção do Centro de Biotecnologia e Química Fina (vários mandatos); e diretor adjunto para a Investigação do Centro Regional do Porto da UCP. Presentemente é Presidente do Conselho Científico da ESB e membro da Direção do CBQF.
