PhD in Biotechnology (special in Chemistry) from the Portuguese Catholic University. Degree in Chemistry from the University of Porto. António Rangel is a Full Professor at the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, where he teaches several subjects in Basic and Analytical Chemistry.
His research interests focus on the automation and miniaturization of chemical and biochemical analyses, with an emphasis on the development of flow systems and microfluidic devices for analysis in the environmental, food, and biomedical areas. He is co-author of more than 170 internationally indexed publications and has been involved in the supervision of 20 doctoral theses; he is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the scientific journal “Talanta”. He has held various management positions at the institution, e.g. member of the ESB Board (several terms), direction of the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (several terms); and Deputy Director for Research at the UCP Porto Regional Center. He is currently President of the Scientific Council of the ESB and a member of the Board of the CBQF.
