Doutorado em Biotecnologia (especialidade de Microbiologia) pela Universidade Católica Portuguesa e licenciado em Biologia pela Universidade do Porto. É Professor Auxiliar da Escola Superior de Biotecnologia onde leciona disciplinas nas áreas da Biologia e da Microbiologia. É Investigador do CBQF (Centro de Química Fina e Biotecnologia) (Laboratório Associado do Estado) com interesses de investigação nas áreas de ciência alimentar, ciência do vinho e biodiversidade e fisiologia de microrganismos de origem alimentar. Publicou 33 artigos sobre estes e tópicos relacionados em revistas internacionais de referência (70% Q1 + 30% Q2), 4 capítulos de livros e participou em vários simpósios/congressos internacionais e nacionais. Esteve envolvido na supervisão de 4 teses de doutoramento e 35 dissertações de mestrado. Coordenou 9 projetos de investigação e contribuiu para outros 17 projetos com financiamento externo (fundos nacionais e internacionais). Coordena ou coordenou vários programas de ensino superior, nomeadamente cursos de pós-graduação: Mestrado em Microbiologia Aplicada (ESB-UCP), 2007-2021; Mestrado em Ciência e Tecnologia do Vinho (ESB-UCP), 2010-2012; Programa de Doutoramento em Enologia e Viticultura (ESB-UCP e UTAD), 2014-2020; Pós-graduação em Enologia (ESB-UCP), 2017 – presente. Membro do Conselho Pedagógico (2007-2021) e do Conselho Científico da ESB-UCP.
