É licenciada em Biologia (Texas A&M University, EUA) e doutorada em Ciência e Engenharia Alimentar (Escola Superior de Biotecnologia - ESB). É atualmente Professora Auxiliar da ESB, onde leciona na área da Microbiologia, Cultura Celular e Imunologia e coordena a licenciatura em Microbiologia.

Os seus interesses de investigação centram-se na Microbiologia Aplicada e na sua interface com a área Biomédica. Integra a direção do Centro de Investigação CBQF-Laboratório Associado.
