Science through Mobility: Beyond Techniques, Towards Collaboration in Biomimetic Research

Segunda-feira , 27 de Julho 2026 - 14:00

Scientific mobility is more than an opportunity to learn new techniques. In this talk, Joana Cristina Barbosa will share her experience during a mobility stay at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), in Barcelona, within the Biomimetic Systems for Cell Engineering group. Here, she explored biomimetic intestinal models developed through advanced cell culture methodologies, opening new perspectives for studying host–microbe interactions and validating microbial bioactives in more physiologically relevant systems. Beyond the scientific dimension, the talk will also reflect on the broader value of mobility programmes: adapting to a new research environment, communicating across disciplines, managing expectations, building trust, and transforming a short-term stay into the foundation for future collaborations.
