The Faculty of Biotechnology of Universidade Católica Portuguesa and the Portuguese Society for Biotechnology organise the Biotechnology Olympiads every year. Aimed at secondary school students, the event seeks to promote:

• Scientific and technological culture among secondary school students
• Knowledge of biotechnology in its many different fields
• Interest in competitive activities at national level
• Opportunities for young people with similar interests in the sciences to meet

The 21st Biotechnology Olympiads consist of a local qualifying round and a national final. The latter includes a theoretical test and a practical laboratory examination (the photograph above was taken during the 2025 practical examination). These are the key dates for 2027:

• Registration: by January 21st, 2027
• Qualifying round: February 3rd, 2027, from 3pm to 4pm
• National final, in Porto: April 23rd, 2027, from 9am to 5.30pm

Registrations must be completed through this form. Each participating school must appoint a teacher responsible for overseeing the activities. This teacher will receive the relevant instructions by email on January 25, 2027.
