BIOFASE – 4th Congress of Bioengineering Research in Secondary Education is an event aimed at all students and teachers who develop scientific projects and other research work as part of 10, 11 or 12th grades.
The theme is bioengineering in the broadest sense: from microbiology to biotechnology, from health to the environment... what matters is a focus on solving problems through biology-based tools.Teachers, secondary school students and anyone else interested who do not have work to present are also very welcome, subject to the capacity of the auditorium.
The event will take place on May 26th 2027 (Wednesday) at the Faculty on Biotechnology of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Porto. It will run throughout the day, with plenary sessions, invited speakers, discussion groups, oral presentations and, of course, poster assessments.
The best oral presentation and the best poster will each receive a €150 prize and a certificate. All participants will receive a certificate of participation. There is no registration fee.
A description of each project must be submitted by 31 March by the teacher coordinating the work. Coordinating teachers may or may not attend the congress; in either case, they must complete the form by this deadline. All submissions may be made in Portuguese or English.
Individual registration for participants (students, teachers who are not coordinating projects, or other interested parties) is open until 12 May. However, the total number of participants is limited by the capacity of the auditorium, so the earlier registration is completed, the better the chances of securing a place
A waiting list will be created. Anyone who registers but subsequently finds that they are unable to attend should inform the organisers as soon as possible. Each registered and accepted project is guaranteed two seats in the auditorium, provided that these participants register by 30 April.
Confirmation of project acceptance will be sent by email on 12 April. The congress scientific committee will review the submissions and decide which projects will be presented orally and which will be presented as posters.
Please note that the 31 March deadline means that some projects may still be ongoing and have no results at that stage, although results may be available by 26 May.
The scientific committee will take this into consideration when reviewing the submissions. Oral presentations are always delivered by students, although teachers can, and should, attend.
