Resumo
It is recognised that chemicals from packaging and other food contact materials can migrate into the food and thus be ingested by the consumer. Developments in packaging field have led to new challenges in the safety assessment, particularly those associated to new materials such as bio-based, active and intelligent systems, nanomaterials and the increasing use of recycled materials. These are a few examples where potentially new migrants can be anticipated, that will be discussed. A specific case of a borderline product – baby bibs – will be discussed.
