Description: Chichá gum is a heteropolysaccharide isolated from the exudate of the Sterculia striata tree. This gum was chemically modified with phthalic and acetic anhydrides through an esterification reaction. The resulting derivative has demonstrated antimicrobial activity and biocompatibility, being considered promising for use in the prophylaxis or treatment of infections caused by bacteria and fungi.
