For two days, Insure.hub's 4th international conference promoted the transfer of knowledge between academia and industry to accelerate solutions for a more sustainable future.
The 4th Insure.hub International Conference brought together academics, experts and professionals from various fields to discuss innovation, sustainability and regeneration. The event, organized by Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Escola Superior de Biotecnologia and Católica Porto Business School - with Planetiers New Generation, had the main objective of promoting the sharing of knowledge between academia and industry, encouraging practical collaboration in the implementation of effective solutions to face global challenges - of the present and the future. Throughout the intense two-day program, there was a constant emphasis on multidisciplinary approaches and the responsible use of technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data science, to achieve sustainability goals. The more than two dozen scientific papers presented, the practical cases shared by companies and the contribution of international speakers with unique perspectives all contributed to an innovative and inspiring program.
Promoting dialog between academia and business
Divided into social sciences and natural sciences, national and international researchers had the opportunity to present projects, share experiences and debate solutions in front of an expert jury. This format of public sessions, one of the event's main focuses, allows for constructive dialog to refine ideas and advance more effective methodologies. The highlights went to Ana Mesias, in the natural sciences, with the prize awarded by KPMG for the study she is coordinating on the potential of peptide insect derivatives in the sustainable and effective treatment of Alzheimer's. João Nuno Gonçalves, in the social sciences, won the MDS prize for best presentation with the scientific article “Boosting supply chain simulation processes using multi-target machine learning”. During the two days, there was room for the presentation of projects on topics as diverse as sustainable artistic practices, decarbonization or issues related to the textile sector.
