Monday, May 6, 2024 - 10:33

The SMARTI project is showing promising results in Armenia. This innovative project aims to promote the internationalization of higher education in Armenia by introducing English as the language of instruction in non-linguistic courses such as sciences, mathematics, medicine, and information technology.

Following the establishment of EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) Centers to ensure excellence in English language teaching and learning, a successful testing phase was conducted with pilot teacher training courses. Based on the results obtained, a Continuous Professional Development Program for higher education teachers was launched, focusing on four Armenian Higher Education Institutions: the Public Administration Academy RA, Vanadzor State University, Goris State University, and Armenian National Agrarian University.

This training program has been widely promoted in Armenia, aiming to enhance its adoption and impact. Additionally, the development of a Pedagogical Manual is planned to improve English teaching and learning practices in higher education.

Next week, a workshop is scheduled to take place in Latvia, where the project's implementation results will be evaluated. This event will mark another significant step towards strengthening Armenian universities through English as the medium of instruction.

The SMARTI project is proving to be a crucial initiative for the modernization and internationalization of higher education in Armenia, opening doors for quality and globally competitive education.
