PhD in Biology – Specialization Molecular Biology and Genetics – at Universidade de Aveiro, in collaboration with the Technical University of Berlin and Instituto de Medicina Molecular, Lisboa, Joana Cristina Barbosa has a BSc in Biotechnology and a MSc in Molecular Biotechnology both by Universidade de Aveiro.
Currently, she is a researcher at Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry, with participation in several projects mainly focusing the characterization of next-generation probiotic strains and the development of new plant-based foods. Her main research interests ultimately envisage the development of alternative strategies for the prevention and treatment of diseases, namely the production of delivery systems for efficient probiotic uptake and the search for alternatives to the traditional antibiotics. Recently, she was involved in the project 3Boost, for the valorization and transferability of the technologies and knowledge of the Centre. She is a Professor of the subject Microbiology and Molecular Biology Laboratories at Faculty of Biotechnology. She has also an active participation in the divulgation and promotion of the Faculty in schools and the media.
