The CBQF/LAE Research Seminar “Macau–Hengqin: Bridging Sino-Lusophone Collaboration in Sustainable Biotechnology" with Deepa Alex Mora – BioMyne Biotech Innovation and Engineering Ltd. (Macau and Hengqin) will take place on 5 November at 10:30 a.m., in Room EBI017, Biotechnology Building.

Presentation Abstract
Macau’s innovation ecosystem remains at an early stage, yet its unique Sino-Lusophone cooperation framework and FDCT funding incentives are opening new avenues for cross-border collaboration in sustainable biotechnology. Through BioMyne Biotech, we are demonstrating how these frameworks can connect Lusophone scientific excellence with Greater Bay Area innovation capacity, building bridges that translate research into tangible products.

Macau also presents an untapped circular opportunity: one of the world’s highest food waste generation rates per capita, driven by its 40 million annual visitors across just 30 sq km and a buffet-centric hospitality sector. This creates a dense, predictable flow of uniform waste streams ideal for biotech valorization.

Our projects convert such by-products into functional biomaterials, bioactives, and sustainable product formulations, while expanding partnerships with Portugal, Brazil, and East Timor to validate, scale, and diversify these innovations.
