The School of Biotechnology (ESB) of Universidade Católica Portuguesa welcomed its new undergraduate and master’s students between 2 and 15 September, in a series of orientation sessions that marked the beginning of the 2025/26 academic year.

During the first week, dedicated to undergraduates, students took part in a programme specially designed to support both academic and personal integration. Activities included inaugural lectures, laboratory sessions and moments of scientific reflection, as well as more informal initiatives such as picnics, club fairs and peddy papers. There was also space for volunteering, with participation in the project “Ser+ Ambiente – Catholic University Students in Action,” reinforcing ESB’s commitment to sustainability. One of the highlights of the week was the official reception for students and their families, led by ESB’s Director, Paula Castro, and by Universidade Católica Portuguesa’s Pro-Rector, Isabel Braga da Cruz.

On 15 September, master’s students were welcomed at a session held in the Comendador Arménio Miranda Auditorium, where they were provided with essential information for the start of their new cycle of advanced studies.

For ESB’s Director, Paula Castro, these moments hold special significance: “Welcoming new students is always a moment of great meaning, as it marks the beginning of a journey that will be full of challenges, learning opportunities and personal growth. We want each student to feel, from day one, that ESB is their home — a place of knowledge, but also of sharing and community.”

Students gave very positive feedback, highlighting the warm atmosphere of the reception and the opportunity to build bonds, meet colleagues, professors and services right from the very first days.
