Between July 10th and 14th, 2023, the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia (ESB) welcomed a special delegation of professors and government representatives from the Republic of Tunisia to participate in the workshop entitled "BioExcellence: Sharing Best Practices in Biotechnology Research and Education". The workshop was organized as part of the Biotech Tunisia project, and aimed at modernizing practices within a consortium of Tunisian biotechnology universities through the exchange of experiences and know-how with European academic institutions, including ESB.

In this multidisciplinary workshop, topics such as science management, quality control and accreditation, innovation in education, and technology and knowledge transfer were discussed. Additionally, the participants had the opportunity to visit the facilities of Perfinox in Arouca, where they learned about the career path of an ESB alumna who now works at the company. This visit provided a close observation of the transition between research and industry, highlighting the significance of academic training in the professional careers of graduates.

The event created a conducive environment for the exchange of ideas and perspectives, fostering partnerships and encouraging international cooperation between the participating institutions. The presence of the Tunisian delegation at the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia represented a significant step towards strengthening academic ties between Portugal and Tunisia, with the potential to promote advancements in biotechnology within the scientific and educational realms.
