Objectives and competences
Challenge the students to prepare a synthesis work, in a group, which requires an adequate mastery of the various material areas proposed for a professional activity in Food Engineering.
The project aims to work in areas related to the development of production processes for new food products, or the implementation of new technologies. It is intended that this integration of scientific-technological knowledge takes place in a real framework, often with links to external organizations.
The UC can help students learn about the different dimensions associated with the elaboration of an industrial project, in addition to technical issues, and understand its connection with other domains of the food industry and implications for the environment.
Teaching Methodologies
Students work in groups, identifying the work topic at the beginning of the semester.
Usually, the work is the industrial production project of the product developed in the previous year in the discipline of Development and New Processes and Products, including the evaluation of the technical and economic feasibility of the process.
In the first weeks, each group presents a schedule of work. The subject teachers have weekly meetings with each group, in order to monitor the progress of the work. Students are encouraged to look for diverse information outside the institution, in order to develop their ability to relate and communicate with specialists and non-specialists.
At the end of the semester, students present a properly structured written report and present an oral communication of the work.
During the semester, lectures are offered on the different topics related to the development of projects in the field of Engineering. There are also “Seminar” presentations given by specialists in different areas, including broader topics such as “business innovation”, “business opportunities”, “how to start a business”.
