PhD in Engineering Sciences and Technology (specialty in Biochemical Engineering) from Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology of the New University of Lisbon in 2011. He graduated in Microbiology from School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) in 2005. Oscar did his Postdoctoral in Micro- and Nanotechnology at CEB of University of Minho and he is currently a Senior Researcher at Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) of UCP.

His research interests are centered on the valorization of by-products of the Agro-Food industry, focused on the development, characterization and production of innovative systems for delivery and controlled release (e.g., micro- and nanoparticles, hydrogels, films and coatings) of biomolecules for food, cosmetics, biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. He is co-author of 2 National Patents, 2 books, 12 book chapters and over 40 internationally indexed publications, and has been involved in the co-supervision of 5 PhD and 7 MSc theses. He held management positions in several institutions (co-founder of Blendera food solutions in 2012, member of the Directive Board of ANICT in 2018, responsible for the structural platform of analysis of the Fermentation solutions group since 2020 and leader of the Science on Demand task-force since 2022, both at CBQF).
