João Carneiro is an Assistant Researcher at the Chair in Microbial Evolution at the Centre of Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry, Faculty of Biotechnology, Universidade Católica Portuguesa. With a background in Biology, he works at the interface of bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular modelling and artificial intelligence, with a focus on microbial evolution and applications in health, environmental sustainability, and blue biotechnology. He holds a degree in Biology, a Master's in Forensic Genetics, and a PhD in Biology from the University of Porto.
Throughout his career, he has developed reference bioinformatics databases and online platforms, led or participated in projects funded by FCT and the European Union, and established collaborations with numerous national and international institutions. He is the author of more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and has extensive experience supervising and co-supervising MSc and PhD students. He collaborates with the Faculty of Biotechnology in the teaching of Bioinformatics.
