The Nutrition and Health Group of the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) proudly shares its most recent publication “Phytochemical and Functional Diversity of Enzyme-Assisted Extracts from Hippophae rhamnoides L., Aralia cordata Thunb., and Cannabis sativa L.”, which resulted from a collaboration with researchers from Lithuanian Research Centers.
This study was developed within the scope of a PhD thesis and involved the multidisciplinary collaboration between researchers from CBQF and the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, and the Research Institute of Natural and Technological Sciences, as well as the Botanical Garden of the Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania.
The PhD candidate Viktorija Januskevice has spent part of her PhD program at CBQF, aiming at characterizing the extracts of Hippophae rhamnoides L. (sea buckthorn), Aralia cordata Thunb., and Cannabis sativa L. (hemp), obtained with an innovative, fast and sustainable method. The study showed relevant levels of antioxidant activity for all leaves extracts and identified the antidiabetic potential and antibacterial activity of the sea buckthorn leaves, thus highlighting the effectiveness of the methodology.
