On the past World Water Day, the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia da Universidade Católica in Porto opened its doors to 12th-grade high school students for an educational and hands-on experience about the importance of water and its treatment. Under the coordination of the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry, students had the opportunity to participate in the analysis of water samples, collected by university students, in a laboratory specially prepared for this occasion.
Divided into two sessions (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), students were warmly welcomed in the atrium of the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, where they began their journey of discovery. In the laboratory, they delved into the urban water cycle and explored its quality through detailed microbiological and physicochemical analyses.
The Escola Superior de Biotecnologia hopes to continue promoting similar initiatives in the future, contributing to an increasing awareness of the importance of water and encouraging active participation in its preservation.
With the collaboration and interest shown by high school students, the School of Biotechnology reaffirms its commitment to education, research, and innovation for a more sustainable and conscious future.
