Valter Martins presents innovative research at the GreenNutriFood 2025 Congress

Valter Martins, a PhD student at UCP-ESB ​​and researcher at CBQF, participated in the 1st International Congress on Sustainable Food, Green Chemistry and Nutrition (GreenNutriFood 2025), from 7 to 9 April, in Dubrovnik, Croatia, where he presented two outstanding papers in the area of ​​biotechnology and food sustainability.

His oral communication, entitled "Biodegradable Films with Polysaccharides and Bioactives from Lobosphaera sp.", addressed the development of biodegradable films using polysaccharides and bioactive compounds extracted from the microalgae Lobosphaera sp., with potential application in sustainable food packaging. The work aroused the interest of the scientific community due to its environmental relevance and innovative character.

At the same time, Valter Martins also presented a scientific poster under the theme "Impact of Fermentation on the Antioxidant Activity and Colour of Haematococcus pluvialis and Porphyridium cruentum", focusing on the effect of fermentation on the antioxidant activity and colour of two species of microalgae with high nutritional and functional potential.

These contributions reinforce the importance of blue biotechnology research and underline the growing role of microalgae in food innovation and environmental sustainability.
