The Faculty of Biotechnology of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa is organising, next month, the “Innovation in Action” Fast Paced  Hackathon, a 5-hour intensive challenge that invites the entire academic community to develop innovative technological solutions using electronics and instrumentation.

Electronics and instrumentation play a central role today in transforming ideas into real-world applications. Sensors, measurement systems and smart devices are essential components in the development of technologies that streamline processes, increase efficiency and improve everyday life. It is within this context that the hackathon emerges, designed to stimulate creativity, teamwork and rapid problem-solving in response to real challenges.

Over the course of five hours, participants will:

  • Work collaboratively to solve a concrete challenge;
  • Design, plan, and implement a functional electronic system;
  • Present their solution to an evaluation panel.

The theme of the challenge will only be revealed at the start of the event, encouraging adaptability, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

According to Pedro Rodrigues, lecturer at the Faculty of Biotechnology and promoter of the initiative, this hackathon represents “a unique opportunity for students to apply their technical knowledge in a real-world context, developing essential skills for creating innovative technological solutions. We want them to feel that engineering and technology are powerful tools for transforming ideas into impact.”

The initiative also aims to strengthen interdisciplinarity across different areas of knowledge at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, fostering the exchange of ideas and promoting an innovation culture that values technical expertise, creativity, and collaborative spirit.
