Eight researchers from the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) at the Faculty of Biotechnology of Universidade Católica Portuguesa are listed among the world’s most cited scientists in 2024, according to the 2025 edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking, compiled by Stanford University (USA) in collaboration with the publishing group Elsevier.
The list includes Ana Leite Oliveira (Biomedical Engineering), Ana Raquel Madureira (Food Science), Célia Manaia (Microbiology), João Botelho (Microbiology), João Fernandes (Food Science), Manuela Pintado (Food Science), Marta Vasconcelos (Plant Biology and Botany), and Paula Teixeira (Food Science).
In addition to the annual distinction, several researchers were also recognized for the impact of their scientific output throughout their careers, namely Ana Maria Gomes, Célia Manaia, Paula Castro, Paula Teixeira, Manuela Pintado, Marta Vasconcelos, and João Fernandes.
The number of Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) researchers recognized in the global ranking of most cited scientists grew by 40% compared to the previous year. A total of 14 researchers are now included in the 2025 edition of the World’s Top 2% Scientists, confirming the international relevance and impact of the research carried out by the institution across multiple fields of knowledge.
