Good Laboratory Practice

Objectives and competences

Knowledge of the general rules of working in a laboratory
Knowledge of the general rules of working safely in a laboratory
Knowledge of the general rules of working safely in a chemical and microbiological laboratory
Understanding and distinguishing the concepts of risk and hazard
Application of “Good Practices” in laboratory work
Correct use of materials and equipment in current use in chemical and microbiological laboratories

 

Teaching Methodologies

The course is divided into theoretical-practical (TP) and laboratory (PL) classes.
Works performed in the PL classes illustrate the concepts and examples presented and discussed in the TP classes.

Safety in microbiology and chemistry laboratories
Demonstration of the organisation of microbiology and chemistry laboratories
Behavior rules in microbiology and chemistry laboratories
Demonstration of the use of safety equipment
Needs of working in aseptic conditions
Bacterial enumeration techniques
The use of the microscope
Basic techniques for characterization of microorganisms
Good practices in the chemistry laboratory
Water used in the laboratory
Glassware
Laboratory operations
            Weighing (use of analytical balance)
                            Preparation of solutions
