The first aquoponic farm in Europe is being created in Italy, where treated wastewater will be used to raise fish and vegetables.
The project is led by a European consortium of 20 partners from eight countries, which includes two Portuguese higher education institutions, namely the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry of the Faculty of Biotechnology at the Universidade Catolica in Porto and the Laboratory of Engineering of Processes, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy at the University of Porto.
