PhD in Biotechnology (specialty in Biology) from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and from the International Rice research Institute (Philippines). Degree in Biology from the University of Lisbon. Marta Vasconcelos is an Auxiliary Professor at the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia, where she teaches several subjects (e.g. Biotechnology Topics, Critical Thinking, Virology).
Her research interests focus on plant nutrition, genetics, and the promotion of more sustainable food systems, including agrobiodiversity and neglected crops (e.g. legumes). She is co-author of more than 70 internationally indexed publications and is involved in the supervision of several master's and doctoral theses; was a member of the Young Scientists group of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. She is editor-in-chief of Frontiers in Plant Nutrition and is currently coordinator of the European H2020-RADIANT project. He is a member of the advisory board for European projects linked to agrobiodiversity and part of several evaluation panels of international projects. She is president (3-year term) of the International Plant Nutrition Council.
She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry.
