Bio

Graduated in Microbiology (2001), holds a PhD in Biotechnology (speciality of Microbiology - 2010) at Portuguese Catholic University Cristina M Monteiro is a researcher at Faculty of Biotechnology, focusing on the area of Nature-based Solutions in urban environments, specifically on Green Roofs for stormwater management.

Her research interest lies within sustainable construction, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, circular economy, with focus on Nature-based Solutions, ecosystem benefits and rainwater management (quantity and quality) into the urban environment. She is author and co-author of several scientific publications and book chapters on the subject, indexed internationally, and has been Guest Editor of Special Editions in the topic. She has organized a thematic session at an international conference in the area of sustainable construction and environment, and has participated in different international conferences as a speaker. Co-supervisor of a Master's student (FEUP), and several undergraduate students at ESB-UCP. Recently she won an award (3rd place) in the PhD & Researcher category in the 1st Edition of H2O Sustainability – Innovation Hub. She was also selected to participate with a project in the program “The Future of Urban Waters” organized by SoScience and PSL-Paris, having been recognized with a mentoring award.
