PhD in Food Science and Technology and Nutrition from the joint doctoral programme of the Portuguese Catholic University, University of Minho and University of Aveiro. Holder of a Master's Degree and Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology from the Portuguese Catholic University.
Researcher specialising in marine biotechnology, with particular emphasis on microalgae lipidomics, developing innovative processes for the production of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids and characterising their nutritional functionality. His research also covers probiotics and prebiotics, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in functional nutrition.
Co-author of 70 scientific publications, he has contributed to four chapters of specialised books and holds a European patent. He has integrated research teams working on important marine biotechnology projects, namely CVMar+i and NOVOMAR, and co-organised an advanced training workshop on microalgae bioactives, contributing to the training of new researchers in the field.
He currently works as a researcher on the VIIAFOOD project, a strategic initiative funded by Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan, at the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry.
