A journey through the main international wine regions: these were the 10 sessions of the Cycle of Master Classes promoted by the Faculty of Biotechnology of the Universidade Catolica Portuguesa in Porto.
The cycle was taught by Bento Amaral, professor of sensory analysis of wines in the Oenology postgraduate course, and sought to respond to a growing curiosity, on the part of oenophiles and professionals in the world of wine, about wine production at International. The Master Classes Cycle, which had its last class in May, was an excellent opportunity to get in touch with representative wines from different regions, which are not always easy to find. A course that aroused great interest and fully met the expectations of the more than 160 participants.
The sessions, always accompanied by a tasting, addressed the different styles and the most striking characteristics of the wines produced in some of the main countries and international wine regions: Italy (Tuscany and Piedmont), Spain (Rioja and Ribeira del Duero), France (Burgundy, Rhône Valley and Champagne), Germany, New Zealand, Australia, USA, Canada, Chile and Argentina. These are regions where the notion of terroir helps to explain the great reputation and value of their wines.
