Researcher Mahsa Farrokhi, a PhD student at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and member of the Centre of Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) of the Faculty of Biotechnology, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, has been awarded 3rd place for Best Young Presenter at the Global Harmonization Initiative (GHI) Conference 2025, held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, from June 25–27.

This international conference brings together researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to promote innovation and harmonisation in food safety, technology, and sustainability worldwide.

As part of this recognition, Mahsa presented her research entitled “Ultrasound technology in gluten-free foods: A novel approach to functional and sustainable bread making,” which explores innovative processing techniques to improve the nutritional quality, technological performance, and sustainability of gluten-free products.

In addition to the scientific program, participants had the opportunity to visit Unilever’s Global Foods Innovation Centre in Wageningen, a benchmark for research and development in sustainable food solutions.

Mahsa expressed her gratitude to her supervisor, Professor Cristina L.M. Silva, and the entire team at Universidade Católica Portuguesa for their continuous support, as well as to Dr. Diana Bogueva, the president of GHI and the organizing committee for hosting such a dynamic and enriching event.

For the researcher, “This award is a great encouragement to continue developing scientific solutions that can contribute to healthier and more sustainable food, and it reflects the continuous support and inspiration I have received at CBQF and Universidade Católica Portuguesa.”

This recognition highlights the university’s commitment to fostering impactful research and promoting scientific excellence on an international stage.
