The Faculty of Biotechnology (ESB) at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa once again welcomed students from different parts of the world for a new edition of the European Master of Science in Sustainable Food Systems Engineering, Technology, and Business (BiFTec-FOOD4S). This semester, 45 students are enrolled in the first year of this prestigious European master’s program, representing 23 countries and 4 continents. Additionally, 11 students from the second year of the master’s program are at ESB, working on their theses.

BiFTec-FOOD4S is a Joint Erasmus Mundus Master's Program, organized by a consortium of four European institutions: Universidade Católica Portuguesa, KU Leuven (Belgium), Anhalt University of Applied Sciences (Germany), and University College Dublin (Ireland). The program aims to foster innovation, technology, and sustainability in the food sector.

Rui Morais, the BiFTec-FOOD4S coordinator at ESB, highlights the impact of this partnership: "The food industry is a strategic sector for the Portuguese economy, with strong ties to the business ecosystem. Collaboration between research units of scientific excellence, with practical and relevant applications, can play a decisive role in the development of the sector."
