The Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa took part in the European Researchers’ Night (ERN) 2025, held at the i3S – Institute for Research and Innovation in Health in Porto, and simultaneously in Armamar. The event brought together researchers from various institutions and associations across the region, creating an environment of discovery and scientific sharing open to all ages.
Visitors were invited to explore experimental and hands-on activities that showcased topics as diverse as the cosmos, archaeological reconstruction of the past, nighttime insect observation, and the human body’s energy potential.
In this edition, that took place on 26 September, CBQF presented six activities reflecting ongoing research projects, reinforcing the centre’s commitment to bringing science closer to society and disseminating the results of applied research:
- Peek into your gut! — Joana Cristina Barbosa and Rita Vedor | Projects Pep2Coat and NGP4AMP
- Insects on the plate: the future of sustainable food — Joana Bastos Barbosa and Teresa Bento de Carvalho | Project INSECTSAFE
- Biorefineries: a green industrial revolution — Eduardo Costa, Manuela Machado, Sara Nunes da Silva, Rodrigo Fernandes | Project CROSSPATHS
- Pocket Lab – “One Health” diagnostics — Raquel Mesquita, Juliana Aguiar and Maria Melo | Project PHSense
- Biotechnology in action: from water treatment to sustainable agriculture — Ana Sofia Sousa, Catarina Amorim, Irina Moreira, Mariana Godinho and Sofia Pereira | Project Sun2Fork
- Fresher food for longer, with the help of science! — Beatriz Nunes Silva and Maria João Nunes | Project MICROORC
The European Researchers’ Night 2025 was once again a celebration of science, fostering the sharing of knowledge and enthusiasm for discovery.
CBQF’s participation highlights the mission of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa to promote scientific research, inspire young people, and stimulate curiosity and critical thinking, all essential for the future of science and society.
