Universidade Católica promotes a new edition of the international intensive programme focused on innovation in the agri-food sector
The future of the agri-food sector lies in innovation, sustainability, and technology – and the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia (ESB) of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) in Porto is at the forefront of this transformation.
Under the leadership of Professors Cristina Silva and Marta Coelho, ESB-UCP conceived and leads SHIFT – Strategic Synergies in Agro-Food: A Holistic Journey Through Innovation, Sustainability, and Entrepreneurship, an international programme funded by the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP). The initiative brings together the Universities of Zagreb (Croatia) and Bologna (Italy) in a consortium of excellence.
Officially launched on March 7, 2025, with an online opening session, the programme challenges participants to develop innovative solutions for the valorisation of underutilised products and agri-food by-products, aiming to generate economic, social, and environmental impact in the sector.
The 2025 edition includes an intensive week of face-to-face activities, which will take place from 5 to 9 May at the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia of Universidade Católica Portuguesa. During this week, participants will engage in hands-on sessions, interdisciplinary co-creation activities, technical visits to agri-food companies, and networking opportunities, in a setting of international collaboration.
SHIFT BIP 2025 offers a unique learning experience, combining scientific innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and sustainability – equipping participants to tackle the major challenges facing the agri-food value chain.
