Manuela Pintado: "Innovation is changing the way we feed ourselves - Sustainability"

Interview with Manuela Pintado, director of the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry and lecturer at the Faculty of Biotechnology, Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto.

"In 20 years a lot has changed in people's diets. While for many years processed foods ruled, today consumers are more concerned with healthy and environmentally friendly food. This concern, along with the increase in the world's population, has conditioned innovation in the food sector.

This is because it has been proven, recalls Manuela Pintado, a lecturer at the Faculty of Biotechnology, Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto, director and researcher at the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry, and leader of Insure.hub, a Catholic initiative working in the area of sustainability, innovation and regeneration. The expert points out that there are several diseases, ranging from obesity to cancer, from diabetes to cardiovascular diseases, that are "clearly associated with diet".
