Freni K. Tavaria has a degree in Biology (Texas A&M University, USA) and a PhD in Food Science and Engineering (Escola Superior de Biotecnologia - ESB). She is currently Assistant Professor at ESB, where she teaches Microbiology, Cell Culture and Immunology and is the coordinator of the degree in Microbiology (1st cycle). She is responsible for the curricular units of Introduction to Microbiology and Microbiology Laboratories and Molecular Biology.
She is the leader of the Biobased and Biomedical Products thematic line and a member of the Biomaterials and Biomedical Technology Lab at CBQF Research Centre. Her research interests are on Applied Microbiology and its interface with the Biomedical area, specifically in biological activities related to bioactive molecules and biomaterials. She presently integrates the CBQF Research Center-Associated Laboratory Board.
