Objectives and competences
To provide students with theoretical background that allow them to understand the physical and chemical properties of the main functional groups and the mechanisms of organic chemical reactions.
To familiarize students with the rules of safety and toxicity of organic compounds.
To provide laboratory practice that allows to interpret and implement protocols of commonly used techniques in chemistry Organic.
To familiarize students with the rules of the IUPAC nomenclature of organic compounds.
Teaching Methodologies
This Unity consists of lectures, tutorial and laboratory classes.
In the lectures the fundamentals and mechanisms of the organic chemistry reactions, physico-chemical properties and stereochemistry of the main organic chemistry families are presented.
In tutorial classes exercises are carried out on the nomenclature of organic compounds and on the subject taught in the lectures. The protocols to be performed in laboratory classes are explained.
The methodology applied in lectures is to introduce the program content using power-point presentations and videos that illustrate the stereochemistry of compounds and chemical reactions. However, it creates a space and encourages student participation in a dynamic and interactive way to clarifying questions or debate the issues under review.
The unit is taught using the e-learning platform, Blackboard.
