At the FLOW ANALYSIS XV international conference, which took place from June 26 to July 1, 2022 in Kraków, Poland, PhD student Francisca Ferreira was distinguished with the prize «Best oral presentation in young scientist session» for the oral presentation of her work in the session of young scientists. This recognition, which consists of books, chocolates and a certificate, rewards the work «On-hand tool for CKD monitoring – design of a couple of μPADs for ammonium and urea determination in saliva» carried out in the group of António Rangel under the guidance of Raquel Mesquita. Francisca is dedicated to developing paper-based disposable analytical devices for rapid diagnosis of biomarkers in non-invasively collected biological fluids (in saliva and urine). The aim is to explore the concept of paper-based microfluidic devices (µPADs) for real-time and in-situ quantification of chemical/biochemical parameters relevant to health.
