ESB partners in InsectERA project to boost insect industry

The Faculty of Biotechnology (ESB) is proud to announce its partnership in the InsectERA project, an innovative initiative dedicated to driving the industrialization and commercialization of insect-based products. This project covers various sectors, from animal and human nutrition to the cosmetics and bioplastics industries, as well as the promising field of bioremediation.

ESB's collaboration in InsectERA reflects the institution's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the promotion of science and industry. By leveraging its expertise in biotechnology, ESB will contribute to driving research and development of new products and processes in this emerging area.

The InsectERA Mobilizing Agenda, of which ESB is a part, covers the entire innovation cycle, from research and development to the manufacturing and commercialization of products in the market. Aimed at fostering the circular economy and driving the development of new products, services, and solutions with high added value, this partnership represents a significant step for Portugal at the forefront of the global insect industry.

Among the project's objectives are the creation of a new value-added productive sector, the development of 100 new products, processes, and services, the creation of 140 new direct jobs, and positioning Portugal as a global leader in this sector.

The Faculty of Biotechnology is excited to be part of this pioneering initiative and is committed to actively collaborating to drive the insect industry forward and promote sustainable solutions for the challenges of the future.
