CBQF Researchers Present at International Conference on Sustainable Foods

The School of Technology and Management (ESTiG) of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança hosted the International Conference on Sustainable Foods – Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (ICSF) on July 24th and 25th, 2024. The event focused on disseminating knowledge about innovative processes and developing sustainable food products, emphasizing sustainable food innovation in the Mediterranean and the development of sustainable vegetable pulp formulations.

Bioactives and Bioproducts group researchers from the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) were prominent participants in the conference. Their contributions were showcased in the session on "Innovative and Sustainable Food Ingredients and Products."

Manuela Pintado, Director of the CBQF Research Center, delivered a compelling keynote speech on "Agrofood Byproducts as a Source for New Food Ingredients for Sustainable and Healthier Diets." Her presentation highlighted the potential of agrofood byproducts in creating new, sustainable food ingredients that contribute to healthier diets. Additionally, Manuela Pintado presented the "ProxiMed – Exploration and Implementation of Products with Alternative Proteins in the Mediterranean Region" project. This project explores the use of alternative proteins in food products, aiming to address the dietary needs and sustainability goals specific to the Mediterranean region.

CBQF's participation in ICSF underscores the center's commitment to advancing research and innovation in sustainable food systems. By presenting cutting-edge research and engaging with international experts, CBQF continues to contribute to the global dialogue on achieving sustainable development goals through food innovation
