The "Conserva Azul" project, a result of a partnership between the Associação Nacional dos Industriais de Conservas de Peixe (ANICP) and Faculty of Biotechnology and the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, has been awarded second place in the prestigious Expo Fish Portugal under the New Seafood Products category. This recognition highlights the innovative approach of the premium sardine preserves, designed specifically for the Japanese market.

The new canned sardine will not only enhance environmental responsibility but also adapt the product’s formulation to suit Japanese tastes, where quality and sustainability are of utmost importance. The project stands out for its sustainable and holistic approach from formulation to packaging.

The development of this innovative product is led by Professor Manuela Pintado and her research team CBQF, combining cutting-edge technological innovation with a deep respect for Portuguese traditions. The prize marks a significant milestone for the project, providing the necessary resources to move forward with the creation of this premium sardine preserve.

The Conserva Azul project represents a strategic step for Portuguese exports, aligning with the broader mission of strengthening cultural and commercial ties between Portugal and Japan. By promoting Portuguese sardine preserves as a premium and sustainable product, the project enhances Portugal's international presence in the food industry.
