Objectives and competences
Students are expected to develop their ability to analyze and propose solutions within the scope of topics related to biotecnology and their applications towards a bioeconomy, applying the technical and scientific skills acquired during the course. Conducting an thesis in na industrial environment or in an academic environment will promote the ability to deal with real biotechnology problems. At the same time, it will develop the ability to plan, organize and manage time; ability to integrate into multidisciplinary teams; communication skills, both to specialists and non-specialists. The fact that the UC may be realized abroad promotes internationalization, something that is highly valued by hiring bodies. The student will develop their ability to formulate scientific questions, plan the work, execute and analyze data by applying the technical and scientific skills acquired throughout the course, through research work.
Teaching Methodologies
There is a mid-term auto-evaluation, both by the student and by the host institution, regarding technical and general competencies required in this CU. That enables ESB to follow the work progress and the student performance, and is an opportunity for the student to analyse his/her progress. The final thesis grade is based on the evaluation from the work supervisors (50%) and on the evaluation by the thesis committee of the written dissertation and final oral presentation (50%).
Syllabus
Students have the opportunity to choose a theme/supervisor which is presented in the form of a Research thesis, which includes several projects led by the ESB/CBQF or by external entities with which partnerships have been previously established. All work plans and guidance teams are analyzed and validated by the Coordination and subsequently approved at a meeting of the Scientific Council. After approval, the thesis agreements with external entities are formalized through the Academic Unit Students and Employability. The works are monitored (through meetings and periodical evaluations) by a professor of the master's degree in the capacity of supervisor, co-supervisor or tutor.
