Artificial intelligence has taken on a pivotal role in all sectors of activity. At this event, organized by the Faculty of Biotechnology Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto, the aim is to explore how AI is present in the agri-food sector and to contribute to a more sustainable future. Representatives from companies such as PIPA, Super Bock Group, Cork Supply, and MC SONAE have confirmed their presence. The event will take place on June 26, from 9:15 AM to 4:00 PM, at the School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University in Porto.
"This year, the Innovation Day, which we organize annually, will highlight the transformative applications of Artificial Intelligence in the agri-food sector, bringing together academic experts and industry leaders with national and international experience to explore and discuss innovative advances and pressing agri-food challenges," said Paula Castro, director of the Faculty of Biotechnology. "The integration of AI in the agri-food sector can result in more efficient, safer, and sustainable production, helping to identify problems in advance while promoting the health and well-being of consumers," explains Manuela Pintado, director of the Center for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
The Innovation Day 2024 at the School of Biotechnology begins with a lecture on "Deep AI – accelerating innovation for a healthier and more sustainable future" by IIlias Tagkopoulos, professor of Computer Science at the Genome Center at the University of California – Davis. This will be followed by a presentation by John Melo, CEO of PIPA, on "AI at the Center of Innovation and Enterprise Productivity." The topic "AI-Driven Empowerment Applications in Health & Food Systems" will be presented by Pedro Miguel Rodrigues, professor of Computer Science at the School of Biotechnology. José Fernando Pinto dos Santos, from INSEAD and Guest Full Professor at the Catholic University, will present the topic "AI, Science, and Society."
