Helena Maria Gomes Moreira


Generic Bio

Ph.D. in Biotechnology (specialty in Environmental Science and Engineering) from the Catholic University, Master in Molecular Microbiology from the University of Aveiro, and First Degree in Biology from the University of Porto. Helena Moreira is a researcher at the Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry Center and teaches the theoretical/practical component of General Genetics, as well as modules related to soil health in some master's programs.

Her research interests focus on increasing plant resilience to abiotic stresses and climate change using bioinoculants (mycorrhizal fungi and bacteria) and on implementing phyto-management/phytoremediation systems for the restoration of contaminated soils. She has authored several scientific articles and book chapters and has participated in several national and international projects, such as Phy2SUDOE, ReCROP, and Biochorume. She supervises several students of different academic levels and is a guest editor in several journals.
