The Faculty of Biotechnology (ESB), through its Centre for Technology Transfer and Valorisation – EBRI, is joining the "LEGACY – Legume-Based Innovation for a Sustainable and Culturally Rooted Mediterranean Protein Transition with Resilient Yield" project, recently approved under the PRIMA initiative.

The project brings together partners from nine Mediterranean countries and aims to promote the transition towards more sustainable food systems by enhancing the value of legumes as a source of plant-based protein.

With a focus on innovation in agriculture, food science and nutrition, LEGACY seeks to develop sustainable, nutritionally balanced protein alternatives inspired by the Mediterranean diet.

Aligned with the priorities of the European Green Deal, the "Farm to Fork" strategy, the Food 2030 Pathway and the PRIMA Agenda, the project will help strengthen agricultural biodiversity, sustainable plant-based protein production and the resilience of Mediterranean food systems.

Within the consortium, ESB will be responsible in particular for communication activities, partner engagement, and technology transfer and valorisation efforts, targeting the scientific community, the agri-food sector and society at large.

Running for 36 months, the project reinforces ESB's commitment to research and innovation in sustainable food systems and to international scientific collaboration.
