Ezequiel Coscueta and Ana Sofia Sousa, researchers at the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF), participated in the CRS 2026 Annual Meeting & Exposition, held in Lisbon.

Organised by the Controlled Release Society (CRS), the conference is one of the leading international events in the fields of controlled drug delivery and nanomedicine. This year's edition brought together more than 1,800 participants and featured 934 scientific posters.

Representing the CBQF for the second consecutive year, the two researchers showcased the latest advances achieved within the gBiOT project, which focuses on the development of a biopolymeric, biocatalytic nutraceutical microrobot for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases. The project is led by Ezequiel Coscueta as Principal Investigator.

CBQF's participation in CRS 2026 marks another strategic step in strengthening the Centre's position in the field of nanomedicine. By presenting the gBiOT project at one of the world's foremost conferences dedicated to controlled release technologies, CBQF is showcasing its research to a highly specialised international scientific community, enhancing its visibility while fostering new opportunities for collaboration and scientific exchange.

The conference also provided an opportunity to highlight the Centre's established expertise in biotechnology, chemistry and biomaterials for the development of advanced therapeutic solutions, contributing to the steady growth of its international reputation and scientific credibility in this rapidly evolving field.

This year, CBQF presented two scientific posters. Notably, the poster presented by Ana Sofia Sousa was ranked among the top 10% of all posters at the conference, placing it among the 90 highest-rated posters out of the 934 submissions. This distinction highlights the excellence of the research being carried out at CBQF within the framework of the gBiOT project.
