Ana Martins Vilas Boas, researcher at the Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) of the Faculty of Biotechnology at Universidade Católica Portuguesa, has been selected to take part in the Empowering Women in Agrifood (EWA) 2025 programme, promoted by EIT Food and supported by the European Union.

Her project, BioUpCycle, aims to transform fruit and vegetable waste into biostimulants and culture media, contributing to the promotion of a more circular and sustainable agri-food system. This solution seeks to support regenerative farming and enhance the reuse of raw materials that would otherwise go to waste.

The selection of Ana Vilas Boas for this programme highlights not only the importance of science and women-led entrepreneurship, but also the impact that sustainable biotechnological innovation can have on the future of food and agriculture.
