The Faculty of Biotechnology of Universidade Católica Portuguesa will once again host BIOFASE on 27 May 2026, a congress dedicated to research in bioengineering in secondary education.
The event is aimed primarily at students and teachers from10th to 12th grades, but it is also open to other interested participants, offering a day of science, sharing, and discovery.
BIOFASE - III Congress of Investigation in Bioengeneering in Secondary Education serves as a platform for presenting and showcasing scientific projects developed in schools, covering areas ranging from microbiology to biotechnology, as well as health and the environment. The format was designed to bring science closer to the school experience and to highlight the importance of problem-solving through biological tools.
Throughout the day, the congress includes plenary sessions, guest speakers, discussion groups, oral presentations and poster evaluations. The best oral presentation and the best poster will receive prizes, and all participants will be awarded a certificate.
The event accepts presentations in Portuguese or English, making it easier for different groups of students and teachers to take part.
A day of science in action
More than just a showcase of projects, BIOFASE aims to create a space where young researchers, teachers, and the academic community can meet. In a school context, this kind of congress helps turn laboratory work into scientific communication, giving students the chance to present ideas, defend methods, and receive feedback in a real-world setting.
The 2026 edition confirms the growing relevance of bioengineering in secondary education and the role of the Faculty of Biotechnology as a bridge between education, research, and society. For schools and students, it is an opportunity to give visibility to projects, gain experience, and experience science beyond the classroom.
